kiss_keep-it-simple-stupidKISS or Keep It Simple Stupid.  Common sense and simplicity are extremely important when introducing social media into a marketing plan.

I think KISS should be stamped on the foreheads of some of the so-called Social Media Experts. Everywhere I look, there are new marketing and social media experts.  In reality, there are very few “experts” in the area of social media and if someone has to tell you how much of an “expert” they are—look out!

I’m banging the common sense drum in 2010 and here are a few of the people who understand why common sense matters.

Peter Shankman & Sarah EvansIs Your Social Media Expert Really An Expert? – Best. Post. Ever.

Chris Brogan5 Things Small Business Owners Should Do Today Online -This blog post by Chris Brogan is a must read for small business owners. I’m a huge fan of Chris Brogan because he’s an expert on social media who keeps common sense in sharp focus!

Susan GetgoodIf Customer Service is the New Marketing. Susan Getgood is one of my favorite marketing experts and this is a great blog post!

Brian Solis - PR Tips for Startups – This is a very easy-to-read, wise post for small businesses and start-ups by the always on target Brian Solis.

Finally, Seth Godin is brilliant because he cuts through the clutter by pointing out things that should be common sense.
